Jason Simon has been a tax partner since January 2021. Before joining Kraft Berger in 2018 as a Senior Tax Manager, Jason was a Senior Tax Manager with a Big Six accounting firm.
Jason takes pride in his ability to provide timely, practical, and technically sound tax advice for his clients. Jason has completed parts I, II and III of CPA Canada’s In-Depth Taxation program, as well as CPA Canada’s In-Depth GST/HST Course and CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Issues for the Owner Managed Business Course.
Jason is a former member of the Canadian Tax Foundation’s Young Practitioners Steering Committee and has presented at several events hosted by the Steering Committee.
His main areas of practice include:
- Real Estate including land developers and lessors of both residential and commercial real properties
- Privately held, owner-managed businesses and the taxation of their shareholders including the optimization of owner manager compensation strategies
- Corporate reorganizations, estate planning, business succession planning and corporate, personal, partnership and trust compliance
- Acquisition and vendor planning
Although Jason’s main area of expertise is with private companies and owner-manager taxation, he also has experience in the taxation of public Real Estate Investments Trusts (“REITS”), and has been involved in tax planning and compliance for a number of public REITs.
Jason graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Accounting from Dalhousie University in 2007 and earned his CPA, CA designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in 2009.
